About The Music School of Ryan Cayabyab

The Music School of Ryan Cayabyab opened its doors to the public in October 1986 as an alternative school of music for children, teens and adults. Originally called ‘Ryan Cayabyab the Music Studio’ and located in Sunvar Plaza in Amorsolo Street in Makati City, spouses Ryan and Emmy Cayabyab recruited their colleagues and Ryan’s former students from the University of the Philippines College of Music to become the school’s first faculty members. It offered individual courses in piano and voice studies, and later added theory and rudiments in their curriculum. Through the years the school has trained countless musical artists, entertainers and musicians who have gained national recognition. The original faculty members have also gone on to become noted leaders in their respective fields.

Today, The Music School of Ryan Cayabyab endeavours to be the premier institution that will give more Filipinos a chance to experience the joy, the exuberance and the exhilaration that a musical experience can bring, through properly guided lessons and effective programs taught by professional mentors coming from the academe and the music and performing industry; through master classes led by outstanding artists and music gurus; through exciting seminars and workshops by top local and visiting artists and lecturers; and also through ensemble and group musical encounters for professionals, enthusiasts and hobbyists to further deepen their appreciation for the musical art.

The Music School of Ryan Cayabyab wish to develop happy, well-rounded, highly motivated and outstanding Filipino musical artists, both professional and non-professional performers and musicians who will share this joyful musical experience with their audiences. In so doing, The Music School of Ryan Cayabyab hopes to become the most sought after and admired music learning institution in the country.

Oh and have you ever felt the urge of wanting to jam with friends? There’s so much more that you can do when you get the necessary skills in doing this!

Play Pop Piano will give all you need to know from chord progressions, tonal functions, harmonizations, rhythmic patterns, melodies to ear training, improvisations, and playing piano techniques… Before you know it, you will be closer to becoming your own Alicia Keys, Lady Gaga, Jamie Cullum or Sara Bareilles. How awesome is that?

    14K Program

The 14K workshop provides children aged 8-12 years old with techniques, exercises, and opportunities for singing, dancing, and playing instruments. The 14K student will have had a proficient and full structure of performance and musicianship. This includes basic music theory, understanding the singing mechanism of the body, and learning how to be an intelligent singer and performer. The student is able to explore and develop further his/her talents that may be known and unknown to him/her through various musical and theatrical exercises conducted in class. A recital is mounted at the end of the summer course where all the elements learned are applied by the 14K student.

The Musikgarten Workshop provides children of ages 4-7 years old with music and movement activities. The children are taught to realize that their vocal potential and artistic abilities are limitless, that everyone can learn to dance, support, project, and sing artistically with a beautiful tone. They are taught to think while they sing, to watch and listen to themselves in an intelligent manner. As they begin to understand, observe, and imitate one another, they also learn how to sing and think as a unit.

Through sound singing skills, moving with the correct tempo and playing patterned rhythm, a child’s inner discipline is broadened. In the performance of a musical play, children improve their self-control, expand their attention span, and refine their concentration. Personal self-control in the singing process is one of the most important goals and a natural by-product of artistic music making.

Musikgarten gives young children the opportunity to learn about the world around them through pretend play, singing, dancing, and by playing different kinds of musical instruments in varied rhythm. As classes seem to be filled with much fun and play, musikgarten students may not even realize that they are already learning and gradually developing musical skills.

The Musiktheater Workshop imparts to student’s basic knowledge of Musical Theater and its elements of voice, movement, and acting. Knowledge about other elements like props and costume making, backstage and technical duties aside from performing are taught as well. Students are able to practice creativity and confidence through the activities and games that help them experience first-hand how to get a certain theatrical value or element. A recital is mounted thereafter wherein all students of The Music School of Ryan Cayabyab are included in the cast to showcase concrete application of their learning’s in the course.
